Engineer – Wire Harness Design
Role Overview The Engineer – Wire Harness Design is responsible for designing, developing, and documenting electrical wiring harnesses using EPLAN tools. This role ensures all harness designs meet technical, quality, and safety standards while collaborating closely with manufacturing and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain wiring harness designs and documentation using EPLAN P8 and EPLAN Harness ProD
- Create and manage wiring harness charts, schematics, and 2D/3D routing layouts for various products
- Optimize harness routing, board placement, and assembly strategies based on product requirements
- Generate and control engineering drawings, BOMs, and harness documentation for production use
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and production-ready
- Support troubleshooting of electrical issues by analysing design data and wiring schematics
- Ensure all designs comply with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and relevant industry standards
- Work with quality and production teams to review and improve harness designs based on field feedback
- Manage design revisions and maintain version-controlled documentation
Qualifications
- B.Tech in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
- 2+ years of experience in wire harness design or electrical engineering
- Hands-on proficiency with EPLAN P8 and EPLAN Harness ProD — mandatory
- Strong ability to read, create, and interpret 2D wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering drawings
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard
- Basic understanding of electrical safety procedures
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with physical wire harness fabrication — cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, and assembly
- Experience in EV, Automotive, or Robotics industry
- Knowledge of CAD tools such as SolidWorks for 3D harness routing
- Familiarity with IEEE colour code standards for wiring harnesses
- Experience with harness inspection tools — continuity testers, pull-force machines
- Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving wiring design issues
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a manufacturing environment
- Good communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
