Design Engineer - Mechanical
We're looking for a hands-on Design Engineer to join our team in Bangalore and contribute to our flagship robotics and automation products. The ideal candidate brings solid DFM knowledge, a production-floor mindset, and the ability to translate design intent into accurate, manufacturable drawings. You'll work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to take designs from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain detailed 2D production drawings and 3D models, ensuring accuracy, proper tolerancing, and compliance with GD&T standards.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles across fabrication processes including sheet metal, machining, castings, plastic molding, and welding.
- Develop and manage Bills of Materials (BoM), General Arrangement (GA) drawings, and assembly documentation within a PDM/PLM system.
- Execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) accurately and in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate with vendors during part build — request quotes, review samples, conduct on-site inspections, and flag deviations.
- Support prototype assembly, design verification testing, and iteration based on test outcomes.
- Collaborate with the production team to resolve manufacturing and assembly issues at the floor level.
- Document design, manufacturing, and assembly processes including SOPs and best practices.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to FMEA/DFMEA documentation for mechanical systems.
- Support installation and service teams to resolve field issues across the product lifecycle.
Requirements:
- B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with 1–3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD — hands-on experience with SolidWorks, Onshape, or Creo preferred.
- Strong, practical understanding of DFM across a broad range of manufacturing processes (sheet metal, machining, castings, molding, welding).
- Demonstrated experience producing and interpreting production-level drawings with correct GD&T callouts.
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems such as Duro, Windchill, Teamcenter, or equivalent for drawing release and BoM management.
- Ability to perform tolerance stackup analysis (1D/2D) to validate fit and function across assemblies.
- Working knowledge of material properties and their impact on manufacturing process selection.
- Experience reviewing vendor quotes, managing part procurement cycles, and supporting vendor builds.
- Ability to work independently on defined tasks and escalate design decisions appropriately.
Nice to have:
- Exposure to electromechanical system design or experience working in robotics / automation environments.
- Experience contributing to FMEA/DFMEA documentation.
- Basic understanding of FEA and when to apply it.
- Knowledge of basic electronics — sensors, actuators, wiring harnesses.
- Experience with R&D environments where designs evolve rapidly.
Who you are?
- You're not just a drafter — you think about how parts get made. You've spent time on the production floor or with vendors and know what a good drawing needs to communicate. You take ownership of your work, ask the right questions early, and thrive in a fast-moving team where your output directly feeds into physical products.
