NOTE FROM YOUR TEAM

As a Senior / Principal Data Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping Clue’s modern data platform, empowering teams across the company with trustworthy, privacy-conscious data.

The data team at Clue is a central partner to all departments. While much of your work will enable analytics for product, marketing, finance, and science, you will also collaborate directly with our platform team to support data infrastructure, observability, and data-related initiatives.

You’ll join a purpose-driven, collaborative environment where your technical leadership directly supports Clue’s mission and business goals.

WHO YOU ARE

• A hands-on builder with deep experience in designing and scaling data systems, ideally with cloud-native architectures.
• Someone who thrives on ownership: you can independently lead projects across teams, from initial design to delivery.
• Passionate about empowering teams with clean, accessible, and privacy-compliant data.
• Curious about AI/ML and how data foundations play a critical role in enabling those systems.
• Experienced in working cross-functionally with analytics, product, platform, and security teams in high-growth environments.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable batch and streaming data pipelines.
• Shape the evolution of Clue’s lakehouse platform.
• Collaborate with the engineering, analytics, and science team to define schemas, optimize data models, and ensure data quality.
• Drive architectural decisions related to ingestion, orchestration, and transformations.
• Ensure robust observability, lineage, and governance—especially for health data subject to privacy regulation.
• Mentor others in data engineering best practices, and set standards for documentation, testing, and performance.
• Explore and support ML/AI use cases, working closely with platform engineers and researchers.

WHAT YOU BRING

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering with strong Python and SQL skills.
• Deep understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS (S3, Glue, Athena, Kinesis, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Familiar with data tools like Airflow, Airbyte, dbt, and Looker (or equivalents).
• Experience with lakehouse formats like Apache Iceberg and distributed processing (e.g. Spark via AWS Glue).
• Skilled in building and maintaining scalable, cost-efficient, and reliable data infrastructure.
• Knowledge of data governance, observability, and compliance (e.g. GDPR, MDR).
• Experience with event tracking tools like Snowplow or OpenSnowcat; privacy-aware and pragmatic mindset.
