Lime is seeking a Payroll Manager – North America to design and lead the strategic direction of payroll operations across the United States and Canada. This leader will define the vision for accurate, compliant, and employee-centric payroll delivery on an ongoing basis, managing multi-state and multi-provincial payroll complexity, while taking a hands-on approach to coordination between payroll systems, HR data, and financial reporting. Success in this role includes being a strategic thought leader on the future of Lime’s payroll model, while operating with deep knowledge of daily operations.
This role will report to the Senior Manager, Global Payments and collaborate closely with People Solutions, Corporate Technology, and broader Finance teams. The Payroll Manager will also lead and develop a distributed payroll team, including direct reports and close collaborators located in international time zones, fostering strong operational alignment and knowledge sharing across the payroll function.
This is a remote position with a requirement for candidates to reside in the United States to maintain effective collaboration across teams.
This position requires occasional travel to support business operations, which is considered an essential function of the role. Lime will provide reasonable accommodations as needed.
What You’ll Do:
Own End-to-End Payroll Execution and Oversight
Oversee and design the strategic framework for payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing for the US and Canada across federal, state, and provincial jurisdictions
Direct rigorous reviews and validate payroll runs, deductions, tax withholdings, and benefits contributions before and after processing
Drive scalable delivery models of payroll operations across a growing employee population
Serve as Payroll Platform Owner
Serve as the definitive subject matter expert for the payroll vendor platform (currently ADP), with ownership of configuration, audits, tax filings, and issue resolution
Manage external payroll provider relationships to ensure SLA adherence and data integrity
Provide leadership and expertise in potential future vendor transitions as business needs evolve
Act as the Connector Between Payroll, HRIS, and Finance Systems
Partner with People Solutions and Corporate Technology to ensure accurate payroll data flows across systems for employee lifecycle events
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between payroll platforms, HRIS, and financial systems
Collaborate closely with Finance with payroll reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and variance analysis
Drive Payroll Accuracy, Controls, and Compliance
Own payroll reconciliations and issue resolution across variances, tax withholdings, deductions, and garnishments
Collaborate with Finance on designing SOX-aligned controls, audits, and compliance reporting (W-2s, T4s, year-end filings)
Serve as the primary escalation point for tax notices, audits, employee inquiries, and regulatory changes
Support Process Improvements and Scalability
Identify and implement improvements through automation, standardization, and enhanced documentation
Partner with teams and vendors to optimize workflows and strengthen controls
Lead and Develop the Payroll Function
Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed payroll team, including direct reports and close collaborators across international time zones.
Foster strong collaboration, clear accountability, and consistent payroll standards across the team.
Establish standard operating procedures, documentation, and scalable workflows.
-
Identify automation and process improvement opportunities to enhance accuracy and employee experience.
About You:
7+ years of payroll experience, with hands-on ownership of complex payroll operations
Experience managing payroll through third-party providers (e.g., ADP or similar) and integrations with HR systems (e.g., Workday)
Strong understanding of payroll compliance, controls, audits, and tax reporting (W-2, T4, multi-state payroll).
Experience operating in a scaling, public-company or SOX-controlled environment.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and a high bar for accuracy, ownership, and employee experience.
Willingness to engage with direct reports and peers located in European and Asia time zones, including occasional evening calls and international travel
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related field
