Diffractive Optics Modeling Engineer
NIL Technology ApS
Shape the future of meta‑optics through advanced optical simulations
Are you passionate about computational photonics, nanostructure design, and cutting‑edge meta‑optics? At NIL Technology (NILT), we are expanding our Optics Modeling team with a Diffractive Optics Modeling Engineer who will play a key role in developing high‑performance optical components for next‑generation products. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across simulation, device physics, and advanced nano‑fabrication challenges in a dynamic, international environment.
Based in our headquarters in Kongens Lyngby, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland, as well as with experts in optical design, nano‑fabrication, metrology, device engineering, and system engineering.
You will be part of an ambitious company where we win together. Team spirit and mutual success are key components in our everyday work culture.
Tasks and responsibilities
Model complex optical phenomena
Use commercial and in‑house simulation software (COMSOL, RSoft, Lumerical, CodeV, etc.) to model diffraction, polarization, efficiency, uniformity, dispersion and light propagation.
Design and optimize nano‑structured and meta‑optical components
Develop, simulate and refine nanostructures, metamaterials and waveguides to meet product‑level performance requirements, such as efficiency, FOV, optical throughput, and uniformity.
Perform tolerance and Monte‑Carlo analysis
Evaluate the impact of manufacturing variation, validate physical models, and predict performance sensitivity.
Collaborate across engineering disciplines
Work with optical design engineers, device and system engineers, fabrication teams, and metrology to align simulations with real‑world measurements.
Analyze complex simulation and experimental datasets
Process large datasets to identify discrepancies, refine models, and enhance accuracy.
Communicate results effectively
Prepare clear documentation, component specifications, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Skills, experiences and qualifications we are looking for
- 2–5+ years industrial or academic simulation experience in EM beam propagation, diffractive optics, computational physics, or nanophotonics
- Master’s or PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Strong background in EM modeling techniques (RCWA, FDTD, BPM)
- Solid understanding of geometric, diffractive, and near‑field optics
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and C/C++
- Deep knowledge of EM theory, polarization optics, and diffraction theory
- Experience modeling meta‑optics (industry or academic)
- Experience with CodeV, Zemax, COMSOL, RSoft
- Strong analytical, optimization and debugging skills
- Familiarity with nano‑patterning methods such as nano‑imprint lithography
