The Exploration Company
Location
Munich, Germany
Employment Type
Full time
Department
EngineeringAvionics Communication Power
Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented Radiation Engineer for Space Electronics to help us in our mission by ensuring the radiation robustness of the electronic digital and analog systems we need for our capsule to fly.
You will be successful in this role if you are able to help us:
Writing and verifying C code in Microcontrollers according to space quality standards and modifying it appropriately for radiation testing.
Verifying VHDL code to validate all needed functions in the FPGAs and modifying it appropriately for radiation testing.
Provide inputs to team in charge designing analog and digital circuit boards with FPGAs and Microcontrollers for space environment and suggest radiation effects mitigations to improve the reliability of the design.
Develop test setups for the radiation qualification of finished analog and digital engineering models of flight hardware.
Key Responsibilities
In your capacity as a Radiation Engineer for Space Electronics, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
Microcontroller programming, analysis of existing code and verification
FPGA design, analysis and verification using VHDL
Close working together with Systems Engineers to understand functioning of the systems, implementing optimal test setups to submit the designs to radiation testing and verifying the usage of mitigations.
Writing test software for the system to be able to monitor it while under radiation.
Creation and adaptation of test scripts in Python for test automation
What we would love to see from you
In the role of Radiation Engineer for Space Electronics ideally, you will have the following:
Finished bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Embedded Systems or similar (can be substituted with several years of relevant work experience)
Relevant work experience in Microcontroller / FPGA / SoC design and / or verification
Experience using Microchip Libero and Xilinx Vivado
Solid C Programming knowledge on embedded systems
Solid VHDL / Verilog knowledge
Hands-on mentality working in the laboratory (Soldering, prototype board debugging, etc.)
Experience with programming and using laboratory equipment for electronics measurements
Knowledge of radiation effects and radiation related failure mechanisms in electronic circuits (Single Event Upsets, Single Event Transients, etc.)
Digital circuit design and layout experience is a plus (KiCAD, Altium Designer, etc.)
Knowledge of environmental qualification and relevant standards ECSS / NASA-HBK / NASA -CBCS / MIL-STD for programming, board design, Interfaces, etc. is a plus
