US & Future Programs

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

Our Future Systems unit is dedicated to expanding and complementing these capabilities by conceptualizing and pre-developing new technologies, products and programs.

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to help us in our mission by contributing to the development of our future projects. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be in charge of the mechanical sizing and analysis of a variety of new projects, especially within the In-Orbit Services team. You will work closely with our thermal, CAD, and system engineers to assess feasibility and preliminary sizing of mechanical systems. You will be part of the In-Orbit Services Team within the Future Systems Department, and will report to the Principal Engineer of the project and the Future Systems Lead.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Mechanical Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day-to-day your duties will include:

  • Contributing to co-engineering sessions with CAD, thermal and system engineers

  • Determining the mechanical load cases throughout the entire project lifecycle

  • Providing technical solutions to optimize mechanical performance, in collaboration with other subsystems (propulsion, avionics…)

  • Contributing to the creation and improvement of mechanical analysis tools

  • Effectively communicating and providing recommendations through analyses, preparation, and presentation of technical data

  • Preparing technical documentation and participating in design reviews

What We Would Love to See from You

In the role of In-Orbit Services Mechanical Engineer, ideally, you will have the following:

  • Education: Master’s or PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Technical skills: Strong knowledge in mechanical analysis, coupled with sound design skills

  • Experience: Hands-on experience in preliminary development phase (Phase B/C) project work and systems engineering

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming and data analysis (e.g., Python, Altair Hypermesh, MSC NASTRAN).

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Feedback: Willingness to give proactive and mindful feedback across all company levels.

  • Mindset: Passion for advancing sustainability in the space industry and highly motivated to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up environment.

  • Languages: Fluent in English.
