Zūm is a mission-driven start-up dedicated to modernizing student transportation to enable greater safety, sustainability, equity, and transparency. We’re looking for versatile and agile designers who lead by connecting dots between user insights, design patterns, and business goals. As a Principal Product Designer at Zūm, you will be involved in every aspect of the product design process, from generating new product innovations to shipping stellar product experiences.
What to expect in this role:
- Design multi-constituent product and service experiences that are intuitive and exceptionally well-crafted.
- Apply design thought-leadership and product acumen to complex business challenges, owning design problems end to end, from discovery through to shipping and beyond.
- Contribute to product roadmap and ship/measure/improve designs based on qualitative and quantitative feedback.
- Take broad, complex workflow problems and transform them into simple, elegant design solutions for best-in-class mobile app and web experiences.
- Perform end-user discovery and research to better understand the needs of our customers.
- Build out designs from low fidelity wireframes to high fidelity screens or prototypes.
- Partner with designers, product managers, engineers and stakeholders throughout the product life cycle.
- Collaborate with engineers to balance technology capabilities with great user experiences and shipping high quality products.
- Identify, develop, and drive new initiatives that enable user friendly experiences, across mobile and web platforms for a diverse audience that includes students, parents, district/school administrators, drivers and operations personnel.
- Set vision and strategy with product partners and persuasively communicate design directions to stakeholders Company-wide.
- Formalize, build and enhance design components and language to bolster our design system and ensure a cohesive, best-in-class experience.

Skills for this role:
- Passionate leader focused on great design and building upon collaborative company and team culture.
- 12+ years as a product designer with B2C and B2B experience, leading high-impact initiatives from concept to launch with limited supervision.
- A versatile portfolio that showcases empathy-focused design interaction and problem solving skills.
- Strong ability to independently solve unstructured problems.
- Understanding of complex workflows designed to scale across diverse and multifaceted operations.
- Proven experience building native Android and iOS apps, as well as web products in the logistics/transportation industry.
- Track record of designing and launching complex ‘0-1’ products
- Substantial experience building and enhancing component-based design systems at scale.
- Mastery of visual craft and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that elevate design solutions, excite stakeholders and articulate a vision.
- Ability to adapt quickly and work independently, with a propensity for driving issues and projects to closure.
- Success designing for diverse groups of people and products via consumer-grade enterprise mobile and web products.
- Expert level skills in Figma. Experience with UserTesting and MixPanel preferred.
