Join Our Team in San Bernardino, CA

Step into a typical day as a Fleet Diagnostics Technician supporting student transportation. You arrive at the San Bernardino maintenance facility, review driver notes, and jump straight into vehicle triage. Using scan tools and a multimeter, you pinpoint electrical faults, trace intermittent issues, and validate concerns with a preventative maintenance (PM) test drive. You move from braking and steering checks to evaluating suspensions, drive trains, and power steering units—then on to cooling, lubricating, clutches, transmissions, and oil/temperature/gas regulating components. When major work is complete, you arrange inspections and approvals before any vehicle rolls out. Throughout the day, you log time, parts, and services performed, assist Tech I’s with engine, transmission, and differential rebuilds as assigned by the manager, and handle occasional road calls. You finish by restoring a safe, organized work area and flagging any unsafe conditions or vehicle abuse to the Lead Technician.

Why You’ll Succeed

  • You thrive in a fast-changing maintenance setting and balance speed with accuracy.
  • You’re hands-on with diagnostics, electrical, and A/C systems and comfortable using modern tools.
  • You take ownership of your assignments while learning from senior technicians.
  • You keep excellent documentation and maintain a clean, compliant work area.

What You’ll Do

  • Diagnose and repair medium/heavy vehicles across major systems: steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and oil/temperature/gas regulating components in accordance with applicable Federal, State/Provincial, and local requirements.
  • Assist Tech I’s with rebuilding engines, transmissions, and differentials as assigned by the manager.
  • Conduct PM test drives to validate driver-reported concerns and perform post-service test drives to confirm repair quality.
  • Arrange and obtain inspections/approvals for major repairs before vehicle release.
  • Identify and report additional needed work, including items requiring higher-qualification technicians.
  • Perform assigned tasks when supervised by the manager or lead.
  • Record time, parts, and work performed on the appropriate forms.
  • Respond to road calls and perform on-the-road repairs as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, efficient work area that meets regulatory requirements and company housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Notify the Lead Technician of unsafe maintenance conditions/practices or vehicle abuse.
  • Work the assigned shift and overtime as needed (AM/PM).

What You’ll Bring

  • 2–4 years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
  • Strong diagnostic capability plus electrical and A/C proficiency.
  • Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.
  • Previous fleet experience and familiarity with both diesel and gasoline systems.
  • Recommended minimum hand tools for a Medium and Heavy Duty and Diesel Technician.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Valid CDL License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • ASE certification in brakes, suspension, engine, electrical, A/C; or Master School Bus and/or Master Truck Technician.

Your work keeps our fleet safe and reliable for students and the communities we serve.
